Happy April Everyone,
A good consistent rain supply intermingled with a few nice days has definitely got the newly sown grass shooting up which is great to see. Another good news story is how the Kiwifruit harvest is stacking up, the more predictable weather seems to have the fruit flowing nicely and the harvest volume looks solid, it’s about time our growers caught a break though isn’t it!
Things are going well for us too; we have been busy delivering new tractors this month with plenty of Masseys and Valtra’s heading out the door. Feed out gear too has been in big demand, with the weather cooling off the girls will be relying on that wagon rolling in the gate each morning, so keep the maintenance schedule up to speed on farm and let us know if we can help out.
While there are still some financial pressures out there, the great news is that a lot of our suppliers are throwing out some very competitive finance offers, so if you are in need of an upgrade make sure you ask the question, it’s been a little while since we have had the option of financing a new Fergie at 0% finance over 36months* so it’s a good time to take advantage of the situation!

The Queen of the Beast’s
The Valtra brand has been growing in leaps and bounds in New Zealand over the past few years. A renewed focus along with a new line up of models makes the biggest tractor brand in Finland a real option for Kiwis looking for something that offers serious bang for buck in the premium space and also a seemingly endless supply of options.
The Valtra Q series is the new model on the block and will offer a brilliant option for large scale farmers and contractors to get a premium machine without the price tag to match.
First things first, the Q ranges from 230 hp to 305hp so it offers a good horsepower range for the bulk of a contractor’s daily duties. Power Harrow, triples, discing, combi baler…. Whatever you are up to the Q has you covered. The torque figure is something that pricked up my ears, offering a range of 1000 NM (un-boosted) in the 230hp model to 1280 NM in the big 305hp.
This power is delivered by way of the 6 cylinder 7.4litre AGCO Power engine, a well proven power plant that keeps getting refined to be better and better. With max power being delivered at just 1850 rpm and all the torque being at hand between 1500-1800 rpm it is well designed to do those all-day operations where the engines constantly working it all equals fuel savings and less maintenance over the life of the machine.
Speaking of less maintenance, one other thing worth mentioning is that this machine has ZERO EGR (exhaust gas recirculation). No more black sludge at oil change time and again, extending the life of the big beating heart up front.
Transmission wise it’s the best and most obvious option, AGCO’s CVT trans has found a home in the Q so there should be no concerns about the drivability and longevity of the transmission. It's been tried and tested for years and is renowned as a seriously versatile and sturdy unit.
The whole driveline in the Q is a real appeal, the big AGCO power engine which we all know pulls like a steam train and is as reliable as a shepherd’s border collie coupled with that transmission makes it a real nice place to be and smash over the hectares.
Another standout feature is that the Q Series comes with the optional Auto Comfort cab suspension system which automatically adjusts to different driving conditions and situations, instantaneously.
Through a blend of electronic wizardry, the Auto Comfort system uses info gathered from the CANbus via the shock absorbers, position sensors, and a control unit and then will adjust the stiffness of the shock absorbers constantly, based on movement data from the position sensor and information on the position of the shuttle and brakes provided by CANbus. Air springs on the cab maintain a constant height regardless of load. It’s all above my head but the end result is very noticeable which is what counts, you all do long hours at the steering wheel and any improvement to ride, and comfort means less fatigue and in my mind that translates to less mistakes!
There’s enough in the Q that I could write for days but aside from the above the Q series offers everything else you would expect from our friends in Finland. A plethora of hydraulic options, custom colors and interior options, various spec levels and more technology options than the neighbor’s kids PlayStation 5 you definitely won’t be restricted.
Did I mention how incredibly nice it looks too?
Where this tractor is from, it's tough, it's freezing cold, and they have a massive forestry industry that these things are expected to earn their keep in. New Zealand is a demanding market, for sure, that’s why we think the Q series in our opinion is an absolute perfect match when an educated operator takes to the Valtra configurator and builds a dream machine.
